Armadillo & Co have been producing rugs since 2009 that are 100% handmade in India, using Fair Trade practices and natural and sustainable fibres.
Their rugs are the work of artisans whose intricate weaving traditions are centuries old. They have been passed down through generations and reinterpreted by Armadillo & Co for contemporary interiors. Hand dyeing and sun drying add abundant texture and vibrancy to the yarn which is then flat woven, hand knotted or braided. This hand looming and knotting imbues each rug with subtle character and timeless appeal.
Armadillo maintain a ‘reuse, reduce and recycle’ philosophy with the use of sustainable fibres like wool, jute and PET fibre.
Wool is remarkably durable and it has considerable insulation properties and strong environmental credentials. It helps to create an exceptionally healthy indoor environment and it is a naturally renewable, biodegradable, recyclable and energy efficient fibre.
Jute fibre is extremely strong, durable and environmentally friendly. It softens up and wears in, but not out, with time. These characteristics make it perfect for family living.
Recycled PET fibre (polyester) comes from recycled plastic bottles, with the material sourced locally in India. It is extremely durable, resistant to stains and fading and soft like wool underfoot.
