Marimekko

Marimekko

Marimekko was established in Helsinki in 1949 and a bold future was imagined for textile design and manufacturing. After humble beginnings the company has grown into an internationally renowned phenomenon and a way of life. Marimekko has continually expanded its product range which now includes home furnishing textiles and an inspiring variety of home accessories which we proudly showcase at The Modern. Marimekko designs are not only iconic but also timeless. Signature prints created in the early 1950s and 1960s are still used in their unique collection of designs today, such as the Kivet (stones) and the iconic Unikko (poppy) which is now sold in a variety of colours and variations.

The designers at Marimekko have always sought and found the keys to a beautiful everyday life and their designs are imbued with this sense of authenticity as well as boldness, creativity and simplicity. Their products represent quality and originality and are always produced with a minimum of environmental impact.

At Marimekko design comes first and they believe that people should always follow their own ‘internal beacon’ when it comes to choosing pattern and colour. They express this with their sentiment, ‘at Marimekko you can and should be bold’.
